with the camera in his heart and hands…
Meet the man
Hello, thanks for stopping by. My name is Eric Mathews. My roots in photography go back to the mid-seventies when I bought a used Agfa 35mm range finder from a friend. I was fascinated by the ability to create something with my eyes using a simple camera and some film.
For several years, I only shot black and white as it was inexpensive to purchase and process. I took pictures of everything I could think of. Using an old light meter to set exposures so as not to waste film, I discovered the different film speeds (ISO) and how it affected exposures, how shutter speed and f-stops interact, and how to make an eye pleasing photo. Largely self-taught in those days, I’m now thankful for a bounty of learning material.
I’m also an artist, mainly painting and drawing in several mediums. I believe this has given me the ability to compose naturally using my camera.
I’ve been waiting many years to begin this part of my life and with the partnership of my wife Jenene, here we go!
